Best Way to Start the Morning: Vegan Edition




Breakfast has been considered one of the most important meals of the day. It is literally breaking your fast from the night before. Most people eat dinner by eight in the night, and breakfast is usually consumed around six to seven in the morning. Jump-starting your metabolism with something healthy and nutritious is so incredibly important to maintaining a healthy and happy life. Here are five incredibly delicious, quick, and easy breakfast options for you, with ingredients listed.

            

1.)   Monday: Green Smoothie
A smoothie is one of my favorite things to eat in the morning because they are so incredibly easy to make. This smoothie includes bananas as a base, but also blueberries, mango, spinach and coconut water. If you don’t like coconut water, you could add a nut-milk of choice or simply just water. From one busy vegan to another, freeze everything the night before you want to make your smoothie, it will taste creamier than if you used fresh ingredients and ice. Another professional tip, freeze your bananas flat first, then put them in a container. This way your bananas don’t all stick together. Doing this with all your fruit will make it easier to put into your blender. You can substitute any of your favorite greens and fruit to your smoothie to make it however you want, I recommend using bananas as a base so it will be incredibly creamy and not chunky.
2.)   Tuesday: Granola and Rice Milk (or your favorite nut-milk)
The beauty of a simple bowl or granola. You can buy a granola from a bulk food store (so you aren’t using plastic) or you can make your own. I like making my own because I really don’t like raisins, and most granola has raisins in it. An easy granola recipe that I love is simply oats, pitted dates, raw almonds, raw cashews, and cacao nibs. I love the chocolate crunch in the morning. I roll these into little balls and eat them together with my favorite nondairy milk, rice milk. You can have anything you want into your granola. That is the beauty of making your own! And it is incredibly cheap and super nutritious.

3.)   Wednesday: “Nicecream”: Chocolate
What you will need for this recipe is very simple: frozen bananas that have thawed for a bit, chocolate vegan protein powder (I really love the Vega protein and greens chocolate one), cacao nibs (optional) and fresh berries (optional). It is really important that the bananas have thawed for a bit, so it will be this delicious, creamy texture. Throw everything into the blender, and you have banana ice cream. I personally like to top my banana ice cream with strawberries and cacao nibs. I like to tart flavor in comparison to the sweet banana and chocolate protein powder. I also really love chocolate!
4.)   Thursday: Apple and Cinnamon Overnight Oats
Overnight oats are an incredibly easy way to start the morning. To make overnight oats, you want to make your recipe the night before, and let it sit in the fridge overnight in a glass jar (if you let it sit in a plastic jar overnight, you will have a plastic flavor to the oats, and it will be ruined). Basically, for the apple and cinnamon oats, which I happen to think are perfect for fall, you want to mix your cinnamon (about a 1/3 of a tablespoon {more if you like the flavor}), coconut sugar (about a tablespoon), nutmeg (a dash), with a ½ cup of oats and put the mixture into your container of choice. Once all of this is mixed together, you can add your apple. I put about a half an apple diced up together into the jar. Then, add about a cup of your nondairy milk of choice. My favorite is rice milk, but whatever you desire will be perfect. Then put your overnight oats into the fridge, and have a wonderful fall recipe of breakfast in the morning!

5.)   Friday: Coconut Yoghurt with Granola

Coconut yogurt is one of the easiest things to eat in the morning. It is full of incredibly delicious flavors, plus probiotics. Probiotics are important because our bodies require a healthy dose of good bacteria to maintain wellness. Meanwhile, probiotics perform many daily functions including but not limited to: breaking down and digesting food, producing vitamins, suppressing other microbes that threaten to take over your health, like yeast, replenishing good bacteria that has been destroyed by antibiotics and environmental insults, managing diarrhea and urinary tract infections, and so much more.
