Healthy Snacks

Image
Sometimes when you are in a pinch it can be a bit of a struggle to eat healthy. Sometimes you run out of produce when you are out and may have to settle for some packaged foods. There are some better options to reach for when you want to get a snack. There are definitely some good brands out there that I love getting for when I have a busy work day. Some of these snacks can be good for dipping in salsa or hummus, or any other dip. A lot of these snacks shown also have other flavors in that kind that are also really good to try out. I love all of the products I have tried by a brand called The Daily Crave so far. I love eating these as a snack with some hummus or you could find any other dip that may go well with this. I enjoy any sort of spread that can be eaten with this and you can also top it with some veggies as well. There are also some other really good flavors including tomato basil, barbeque, salt and vinegar, and sriracha. They have veggi...

Eating Healthy Meals at Chain Restaurants (Part 1)

Image
(photos by Danielle) A lot of people feel like transitioning to a healthier lifestyle will make it more difficult to be in situations like eating out. Going on to eat does not have to be difficult and there are so many articles and youtube videos showing you how to eat healthier/vegan/vegetarian when going to chain restaurants, even when there are not a lot of options. For a while, when I was going out to eat I was eating plant based at home, but struggled to stay that way when I went out. However, this does not have to be the case. You can still go out with friends and family and join in while still staying true to your morals and personal health goals.  I will be naming some restaurants that I frequently go to and also tell you what I got along with some pictures. I will let you guys know how I navigate the menu when I go out to eat. First of all, I am unable to eat dairy to begin with and get very sick if I happen to have it. To combat this issue, many restauran...

Products I Love at Trader Joes (Part 2)

Image
If anyone loves going to Trader Joes as much as I do, they know that there are so many wonderful products there that you can find so much cheaper compared to other stores. I find so many new products that I love and my family has also been a fan of when I have prepared meals for them. We love going to Trader Joes and finding new products. It is a great store to find vegan products in as well and they are also mostly all clearly labeled.  (photos by Danielle) One of my all time favorite products is the tomato basil hummus dip. This has so much flavor and I love putting it in wraps, on crackers, and in pasta recipes. Let me know in the comments what you guys like using your hummus for? I have been using it in my recipes and not just as a dip and it adds so much flavor.  (photos by Danielle) I love all of the hummus dips that I have tried from Trader Joes and because of how wonderful the prices are, I will always load up on multiple types of hummus each ...

Kombucha

Image
Kombucha can be a delicious treat that can be an alternative to a lot of sugary drinks like juices and coffees, but certainly does not skimp on the outstanding taste and flavors!!! A lot of these are delicious and I would recommend it. Some of these can have a vinegar aftertaste so it may take a while to find one you like a lot. I have tried a few flavors from brand and have tried them out that do not have that taste. I do not drink this often at all, but it can be a treat for special occasions. The ones that I have tried so far have been amazing and other people who have tried them with me liked them as well.  (photos by Danielle) (photos by Danielle) (photos by Danielle) I have tried a few of the flowers from the brand GTS Synergy and they have been good if you do not find the vinegar taste. I have tried Trilogy, Guava Goddess, and Gingerberry. I liked all of them and I would want to try some of the other flavors. They are great and I would recommend...

Your Personal Health Journey

Image
(photos by Danielle) Starting your personal health journey can be intimidating for some, but with support, this can become easier. A lot of people sometimes will not even know where to start. It can be good to start this journey with a positive mindset and start shifting your habits to better ones. Some people prefer to do this overnight and some do this as a gradual shift over time. My journey was gradual and I started incorporating better habits into my life. I now feel so much better since I have started this.  I have felt so much better lately and have had so many more productive days. I have been changing my life by curbing my eating habits and exercising. I feel amazing on days where I do four miles a day because it gets me so energetic and motivated to continue the rest of my day. I got so much more done in the day since switching to a healthier lifestyle and weel as thinking more positive. One thing that I want to stress is that you do not have to b...

Health in the New Year of 2018

Image
In the new year, a lot of people put health as their priority and set new years resolutions to be healthier. For some people, they tend to fall out of their habits as time goes on, and then they rest their resolution the following new year. To stay with these habits, it can be helpful to find recipes that are delicious and healthy.  To maintain better health, try finding recipes that you already love and lookup healthier versions of them. It can be helpful to replace things with healthier ingredients or try to cut back on how often you have them.  One of the easiest ways to stay healthy and full through the day is having a smoothie bowl. If you are on the go, you can also take this in a mason jar wherever you need to. This is a quick way to eat healthy for those who do not have a lot of time on their hands.  (photos by Danielle) For the first health snack, I have a smoothie bowl. I have some almond milk blended with banana and mango. This is one of...

Top 5 Favorite Essential Oils

Image
I have been using essential oils for years. They are perfect for when I need uplifting, need help sleeping or if I want to use a more natural air freshener. The possibilities really are endless when it comes to essential oils. When people ask me about oils I always tell them that you can have as many as you want but make sure you have these “essentials”. Most diffusions will call for them and they are super versatile. Here is my top five “essential” oils! 1.)     Tea Tree Oil This oil is important for many reasons. I use it when I cut myself, when I want to cleanse the air when I am sick and so on. I tend to have itchy, dry scalp in the winter so I add a few drops to my shampoo and no more flakes. I make homemade deodorant with it to kill bacteria that causes stinky pits. You can also add it to DIY household cleaners to get rid of mold and mildew! 2.)     Lavender Oil This one is a personal favorite of mine. I love the smell of i...

Warm Meals for Fall

Image
With the weather getting warmer, I am finding myself wanting warmer meals when I go to eat. When I am running from work to grad school classes, I am also looking for something quick, but healthy to get me through my long days during the semester. I need foods with a lot of nutrients to get me ready for the day. I try to make these recipes often and you can also add or remove certain ingredients to your liking. I love making quinoa bowls because they do not take long to make depending on the type you buy. I like to boil my quinoa and then add a number of ingredients. I usually add some vegetables, beans, herbs, and spices depending on what I am feeling for the day. Quinoa and beans are really high in protein and many other nutrients. Adding vegetables can add to the nutritious value of these meals. You can make something else as a meal and have this as a side as well. I try to put as much color into these recipes for presentation. I love adding different colors to the meal bec...

A Smoothie Bowl to Stay Healthy this Winter!

It is that time of year again where it seems like everyone starts getting sick. Sniffles, coughs, runny noses, and body aches are no fun at all. Luckily, we can give our immune system a slight boost through the foods we consume. Whether you want to prevent sickness, or you are already feeling sick and trying to get over it, this smoothie bowl recipe is for you. I like to have it as a nice breakfast to nourish my body with healthy ingredients right away!   It is filled with nutrient-dense and anti-oxidant rich foods to ward off winter bugs. You will need: ·       1 cup of frozen blueberries Blueberries are one of the best sources of antioxidants, which fight free radicals that cause sickness and cell damage. They are also high in vitamin C, which some studies say fights against colds and sicknesses.   You can buy some fresh at the store, or just buy pre-frozen berries. ·       2 frozen bananas ...
