Valentines Day Foods (Cheesecake and Fudge!)

Image
(photos by Danielle) For Valentines Day, whether you are in a relationship or not, one thing we can all agree on is that we love food. These foods can be for anyone and are all amazing snacks or meals that I have had in the past and enjoyed! I am putting a plant based twist on my favorite snacks and they are still amazing. There are many products out there that you can buy and recipes you can make in order to feel festive this season. You can put a red or pink twist on any recipe, or even cut food into heart shapes. It is also a great opportunity to make a meal for your loved ones. This does not have to be a romantic partner...you can cook for the friends and family that you love to show your appreciation for their love.  If you want something home made that has the chocolate and strawberry theme I have one with a bagel and another made with a waffle. If you want to get festive you can shape the food into a heart and add whatever else you like.  (photos by...

Ethical Chocolate for a Vegan Valentine

Image
Valentine's Day is almost as bad as Easter for chocolate consumption, and you might be a little lost in trying to find the right vegan and ethical brands to satisfy your sweet tooth. Thankfully, it's not that hard to find good vegan chocolate because you just have to avoid milk chocolate. Yes, that means a lot of traditional goodies are not an option, but just look for anything with dark chocolate instead of milk and you're good to go. Well, you still have to avoid honey, egg and any of those weird bacon-containing hipster treats. Ok, so getting Valentine's treats with dark chocolate is a good solution for vegans. Except that your money is probably going to a company that still produces tons of non-vegan foods. One accidentally vegan product is a fine choice, but maybe you can do better? Why not choose a truly vegan brand for your Valentine? Endangered Species I love these because they have so many creative varieties, like chocolate with ...

Easy Vegan Brownies

Image
If there is one thing I truly love, it is a gooey brownie. I absolutely love brownies and I’ve been on the hunt to find the perfect vegan brownie recipe. When I couldn’t find one I loved I decided to create my own. Brownies are one of my favorite desserts to enjoy. I like to top it with powdered sugar or vegan ice cream and whipped topping. I am not really a fan of hard or crunchy brownies. No, I love a nice and soft brownie. One that, when warm, almost melts into the ice cream. Great, now I’m hungry. Brownies are actually quite easy to make and to veganize. A lot of vegan bloggers, YouTubers and recipe websites have them. This recipe was adapted from one I found in an old recipe book my mother gave me. It’s simple to make, takes ingredients you probably have in your pantry and is sure to please everyone. Vegan Brownies 2 Cups Flour 2 Cups Sugar 3/4 Cup Cocoa Powder 1 tsp. Baking Powder 1 tsp. Salt 1/4-1/2 tsp. Cinnamon 1 Cup Water 1 Cup...

My Wonderful VegFest 2017 Experience

Image
(photos by Danielle) Over the weekend, I was able to attend my second VegFest over the past few months! This summer, I realized that there are more festivals around the United States, and I was so excited to find this out. I thought that I would have to travel to a huge city and go to California or New York for events like this. Fortunately, Vegan Festivals are becoming more mainstream and even people who are not vegetarian or vegan attend and see what this amazing lifestyle is all about. Going to Chester County Vegan Festival in West Chester, PA over the summer, I had some idea of how amazing this event was going to be. I am so excited for people to see what food like this REALLY is….not just the stereotypes that are far from the truth. After the West Chester festival, I found out there was going to be another VegFest in Phoenixville, PA. I know I was pleasantly surprised with each and every option there and wished I could have tried everything. If you are intereste...

3 Ingredient Chocolate Smoothie

Image
Photos by Danielle With another college semester beginning, balancing the many tasks I have in life can be challenging while running from job to job every day and beginning graduate school this month. Having healthy meals during the semester does not have to be impossible or even difficult. This is a recipe that anybody can enjoy and put their own spin on. This recipe has a lot of nutrients including fiber, vitamin E, copper, magnesium, and manganese. I just use a few simple ingredients and this recipe is great for being on the go all of the time, like myself. This recipe is great for getting your energy going and it includes few ingredients, so it is easy to prepare. When I am constantly working and running around from eight in the morning to midnight most weekdays during the semester, I am putting in a long day of working on and off for 16 hours a day. Time can be a serious issue when you take on a lot of work. However, I wouldn't change it for the world beca...

Recipe!! Easy Chocolate Avocado Pudding

Image
Hi everyone! We have had a very exciting week here at the Smoothie Vegetarians headquarters! Not only do we have a few very exciting things we are working on for you guys, we also added two new faces to our team of writers! If you are interested in learning more about them, click on about us and everyone has a little section about them! Today's post is a yummy treat! Avocado pudding can sound a little off-putting at first. For me, I always say avocado as a savory food and it would stress me out a bit when someone put it in a sweet dish. Since then I have learned so much about avocados and food. I now have avocado with sweet foods every few days between smoothies, popsicles, and vegan pudding! If you have never tried it, I really suggest you do! Avocado gives everything it is added to this delicious smoothness and the fattiness makes desserts have that rich texture we are used to! My inspiration for this recipe was my Step-Grandmothers chocolate mouse. It was...
