Why Do Raw Vegans Take B12 Supplements?

Image
Why Do Raw Vegans Take B12 Supplements? Aug.12,2017 B12, is a water soluble Vitamin needed by humans for the proper functioning of the central nervous system, brain, as well as the healthy production of  red blood cells, and DNA synthesis. All Persons, including those who consume meat, should be equally aware of their B12 levels, noting, however, that most meats are riddled with enough bacteria ( not always killed in cooking the meat for food) to perhaps generate enough supply of the vitamin to boost the eater' s levels. That stated, due note should be made of the fact that malabsorption is a very common issue, and, can affect raw vegans as well as meat eaters. Now, because B12 deficiency is such a grave scenario, all humans must pay keen attention to their levels, at all times. In the latter centuries, this has proven a bit more challenging for vegans and somewhat more for raw vegans. Deficiency can lead to the following : Weakness,  fatigue,...

Recipe!! Vegan Taco Nut Meat

Image
About five years ago I worked in a Raw Vegan Cafe. One of the things I learned to cook while I worked there was Taco Nut Meat. It also happened to be my favorite thing! What I liked about it best was that it was close to "regular" taco meat, but only better. This is not only 100% vegan it is 100% RAW vegan. Not all soy sauces, olive oil and spices are considered raw. You would want to make sure the one you are using is raw if you are on a raw diet. Here is an example o f a raw soy sauce:  OHSAWA Nama Shoyu Sauce As well as an interesting article with more information about it, click here to read it! It is delicious in a lettuce wrap (as pictured), on a salad or pretty much anywhere! This can be stored for up to one week but typically does not last that long. This is a basic recipe, feel free to add other vegetables to it if it gets too thick just add a bit of water! Happy cooking! ~Stella~ Taco Nut Meat Recipe 1 1/2 cup of almo...

Dining Out in Kingston, Jamaica as a Raw Vegan. Part II.

Image
Following up from last week’s review of sorts, and highlight of places within Kingston, Jamaica  at which a raw vegan can easily partake of  and enjoy meals of healthy compositions, here are a few more worthy mentions, which one may wish to put to the test. Next door to Shams Bakery (mentioned last week in Part I) is a raw vegan restaurant named 'Mi Hungry’, their selection is quite varied and offer mainly house prepared menu options. These include standard raw vegan burger options with a few variations for the customer’s choice, raw pizza options, juices, sweet as well as savoury pies to name a few. I like to omit the burger pâté and have a raw sandwich of sauce free, fresh ingredient combination. Here, is a requested, not so well dehydrated nut based  'bun' with fresh lettuce, tomato and onion with chopped scotch bonnet pepper. I like added cayenne as well to give an extra kick. Raw sandwich with burger ‘bun’. Open faced. Covered: N...

What is Raw Food Combining and why is it important? Part II

Image
What is Raw Food Combining and why is it important? Part II(Continuation from March 17, 2017). As a follow up to last week’s topic of Food Combining CLICK HERE  to read it : In light of an ever present push to restrict one's calories to lose weight, I am strongly emphasizing the necessity to approach and maintain a healthy weight without deprivation. If one is consuming the most optimal of all diet, restriction is NOT a factor. Eat to one's heart’s content rings through. We are talking about eating until sufficiently satiated here. It is near impossible to meet the body’s requisite caloric and nutritional needs and gain unnecessary weight whilst on a whole food raw vegan diet. If the body’s basal metabolic rate (resting metabolic rate - energy required to keep the body alive) is compromised, this may not augur well. As with everything else, the deficits need to be corrected before one may benefit effectively from such a diet, amongst other things of course...

What is Raw Food Combining and why is it important ? (Part I)

What is Raw Food Combining and why is it important ? (Part I) Most persons in the Western Medical field (doctors, nurses or even dieticians) will most likely not be the ones to broach this topic regardless of the significance it does actually play in health. This, sadly in my view is for no other reason than their program omits the relevance and overwhelming significance of nutrition in health, or nutrition is based on the old patterns of thinking promoted by the Meat and Dairy Industry. Here, my points do strongly go against the grain in almost all respects. Food combining plays a great role in gut health, the helm of true and healthful abundance. Two things which dictate our overall state of anatomical health are: 1. Hydration levels of the body and 2.  Gut health. Without these, disease has grounds to manifest. That said, it is prudent therefore to look at what affects gut health. Food combining is one such protocol.  Due to the fact that it...
